SUPER !!!!! L'imprimante fonctionne, mais pas le scanner : lorsque je veux le lancer la fenêtre s'ouvre et se referme aussitôt.
Merci infiniment pour ce résultat.
Je vais m'arrêter pour ce soir. Peut-on reprendre demain pour le scanner ?

Je crois qu'on n'en a pas vraiment fini parce que là, même si tu as rétabli les fichiers, tu te retrouves avec une installation faite de deux manières. On va quand même essayer de nettoyer tout ça (et puis il faudra supprimer le dépôt perso que je t'ai fait ajouter). Dans un premier temps, tu me redonneras la liste des paquets, je crois qu'il m'en manque un dans les messages précédents :

Ok, essaie de les réinstaller les cinq :

sudo apt-get install --reinstall dcpj140wcupswrapper:i386 dcpj140wlpr:i386 brscan4 brscan-skey brother-udev-rule-type1

Dedans, il y a les paquets du scanner, donc s'il ne fonctionne pas, c'est peut-être un problème différent.

Apparemment il y a des erreurs et l'imprimante ne marche plus.
Avant cette commande l'imprimante était bien présente dans Paramètres système/imprimante mais il n'y avait pas la coche verte comme d'habitude, pourtant ça marchait. Maintenant dans la fenêtre des imprimantes on a le message " Il n'y a pas encore  d'imprimantes configurées"

Ci-dessous le rapport du Teminal. L'imprimante marche à nouveau . Elle est bien présente dans la fenêtre Imprimante-localhost mais toujours sans la coche verte. Le scanner ne marche pas, toujours le même symptôme lorsqu'on le lance : ouverture de la fenêtre et fermeture instantanée :
Au cours de l'installation on me demande si je veux spécifier le "device URI". Je réponds "oui" puis je sélectionne le n°16 un peu au hasard. Est-ce la bonne démarche et de quoi s'agit-il ?

Device URI, c'est l'adresse réseau de l'imprimante. Ça ne se renseigne pas au hasard (surtout si ce n'est pas une imprimante réseau).

Dans les paramètres système, la coche verte indique juste qu'une imprimante est celle par défaut (utile quand il y en a plusieurs). Ce n'est pas un gros problème qu'elle soit absente et tu peux l'indiquer (généralement, un clic droit dessus amène un menu dans lequel il y a "définir comme imprimante par défaut").

Concrètement, là, est-ce que l'imprimante fonctionne si tu lui envoies une page de test ou un document quelconque ?

Maintenant qu'elle a été installé manuellement, est-ce que tu pourrais redonner ce qu'il y a dans /opt ?

A la dernière installation j'ai dit que je voulais spécifier le device URI puis on m'a demandé de sélectionner parmi une liste, j'ai sélectionné le 16 qui me semblait être le plus approprié. 9a doit être bon puisque ça marche. Mais à l'installation précédente il me semble qu'on m'avait posé une question supplémentaire à laquelle j'avais répondu par : 192.168.1.11 (le code IP du PC ?). Pourquoi n'ai-je pas eu à saisir ce code cette fois-ci ?

L'imprimante fonctionne bien : elle imprime quand on lui demande d'imprimer un document.

On va quand même essayer un truc qui pourrait la rendre inopérante à nouveau mais vu l'état des sources, ce serait assez important de pouvoir rétablir une situation propre.

Lance la suppression des paquets et donne le retour :

A la fin de l'exécution de la commande, une fenêtre s'est ouverte indiquant : "problème logiciel détecté- voulez-vous le signaler maintenant ?" Je n'ai pas  "continué".
L'imprimante ne marche plus et elle a disparu de Paramètres système/Imprimantes-localhost.

Bon, je pense qu'on est dans une situation indémerdable. Est-ce que ce serait envisageable de réinstaller Ubuntu (données à sauvegarder, etc.) ?

Là, on peut encore tester un truc mais ça pourrait rendre la situation encore pire vis-à-vis de la gestion des paquets.

À tout hasard, essaie les manips suivantes d'abord (pas de danger mais elles ne devraient rien changer) :

sudo rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/depot_perso.list
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get autoclean
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

et donne le retour de la dernière commande.

Après l'exécution de toutes les commandes proposées il n'y a pas d'imprimante configurée.
Si c'est la solution au problème on peut re-installer Ubuntu. Mais il va falloir m'expliquer bien précisément ce que je dois faire et en particulier ce que je dois sauvegarder. J'ai déjà sauvegarder mes fichiers personnels sur un disque dur externe. Mais je ne sais pas comment sauvegarder la configuration de Thunderbird (différentes adresses mail, répertoires programmés pour chaque adresse et surtout tous les messages conservés en mémoire). De même pour tous les raccourcis mémorisés dans Firefox. J'utilise  deux programmes par l'intermédiaire de Wine : que va t-il se passer pour eux ?
En ce moment, j'ai sans arrêt des propositions de mise à jour mais quand je les lance le message : " Nécessite l'installation de paquets non vérifiés" s'affiche et quand je valide s'affiche le fenêtre et le picto (dans la barre des tâches) disparaissent sans que rien ne se passe.

Tu as peut-être fait les commandes avant de voir la modification de mon dernier message. Supprime le dépôt perso que je t'ai fait ajouter, ça n'aide finalement pas au problème et ça supprimera l'avertissement à propos de paquets non vérifiés et recharge les sources :

sudo rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/depot_perso.list
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get autoclean
sudo apt-get clean

On va quand même retenter une manip. Réinstalle l'imprimante via le script puis essaie de supprimer les paquets :

sudo ~/Téléchargements/linux-brprinter-installer-2.1.1-1
sudo apt-get remove --purge dcpj140wcupswrapper:i386 dcpj140wlpr:i386 brscan4 brscan-skey brother-udev-rule-type1

Tous les fichiers qui étaient dans depot-perso sont aussi dans la racine de Dossier personnel. Dois-je les supprimer également avant de lancer toutes les commandes que tu viens de me proposer et qui va chercher les fichiers d'installation dans Telechargements où ils sont bien présents ?

Ça n'a pas d'importance, supprimer le dépôt empêche APT d'aller les chercher. Garde-les pour le moment.

J'ai oublié de préciser que l'imprimante est configurée et fonctionne mais toujours pas le scanner : Simple Scan s'ouvre puis se referme immédiatement.

Bonjour,
peux-tu donner les retours de

dpkg -l sane-utils simple-scan xsane

brsaneconfig3 -q | grep -i DCP-J140

brscan-skey ; brscan-skey -l 

scanimage -L

Si tu es en 64 bits, lance

sudo cp -a /usr/lib64/libbrscan* /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/

sudo cp -R /usr/lib64/* /usr/lib/

Donne les retours de

cat /etc/default/saned

Si tu es en 16.10 ou plus, lance aussi

sudo apt install libusb-0.1-4 libusb-0.1-4:i386

En finale, redonne les retours de brscanskey -l et scanimage -L

Personnellement, je serais pour un backup des données avant de tenter de supprimer les paquets Brother de façon radicale avec dpkg et, si ça casse encore plus APT, de réinstaller Ubuntu.

Tu mentionnais les favoris de Firefox, les données de Thunderbird et deux logiciels Wine : quels sont les deux logiciels en question ? Autre chose en particulier à garder ?
