Je voulais voir si le pilote Intel (i915) est bien utilisé. C'est le cas. Le problème ne vient donc pas de la.

J'ai lu, à quelques occasions, qu'il arrive qu'il faille brancher un écran autre qu'en Hdmi, puis de le brancher de nouveau comme il l'était, pour pouvoir de nouveau utiliser la résolution maximale de l'écran.

En complément, sur ton écran, n'y a t-il pas un bouton de réglage automatique ? Si oui ,l'as-tu essayé ?

J'ai fait la liaison VGA - qui a une bonne résolution mais un autre problème (cf. #25) - mais ça ne règle rien en revenant au HDMI.
Ayant mis à jour le noyau, j'ai maintenant le Linux 4.15.0-50-generic #54-Ubuntu et en démarrant "à la main" avec le recovery mode, ça marche, comme avec le recovery mode de la version précédente du noyau (48)
Que fait la version recovery mode ? est-il possible de le lancer automatiquement parce que attraper le grub au démarrage est assez pénible
Pour info et c'est peut-être un élément de réponse à ma question, en recovery mode, la commande

sudo lshw -c display

donne :

Procède à un démarrage normal. Pas en recovery.

Installe le paquet Inxi et donne le retour de cette commande :

inxi -G

Suite à ce démarrage, donne aussi le contenu de :

cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log

La commande Inxi montre que le pilote chargé pour ta carte est Fbdev. C'est un pilote par défaut,ce qui explique pourquoi la résolution maximale utilisée n'est pas la résolution maximale de on écran. Tu as bien démarré en mode normal ?

Reste donc à trouver ce qui empêche de charger et utiliser le pilote Intel.

Que donne cette commande ?

dpkg -l xserver-xorg-video-intel

Un problème résolu ? Indiquez le en modifiant le titre du sujet.

Bonjour et merci,
Je ne l'avais pas fait, mais après exécution des 3 commandes suggérées puis redémarrage à froid, le problème subsiste.
Je suis assez désorienté et je me demande si je ne devrais pas réinstaller complètement Ubuntu, mais je suis inexpérimenté et pour l'instant je peux travailler correctement en démarrant avec le noyau Linux en recovery mode (même si c'est un peu fastidieux de l'attraper). Alors j'hésite à faire plus de dégâts - d'autant qu'en 5 mois d’utilisation j’ai quand même eu 2 (3 avec celui-ci) gros soucis après des mises à jour !

C'est encore une carte graphique intel qui pose des problèmes de configuration.

Deux pistes :
- essaies avec le driver nouveau, bien que je ne sois pas familier avec la version 18.04, je ne sais pas quelles sont les conséquences.
- créé un fichier monitors.xml :

Selon le logiciel, la configuration de l'écran est gérée par l'utilisateur et est défini dans le fichier ~/.config/monitors.xml

Il suffit d'éditer ce fichier pour forcer une résolution et un rafraîchissement. Par exemple :

Nota : le ~(tilde) correspond à ton répertoire personnel, dans lequel tu est situé à l'ouverture d'une fenêtre terminal.
Je ne sais pas non plus si ce fichier est opérationnel en version 18.04.

Si cela ne fonctionne pas, donnes en retour ton fichier de démarrage comme précédemment :

cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log

D'autre part, une nouvelle installation est toujours préférable à une mise à jour. Pense à sauvegarder toutes tes données personnelles avant de réinstaller ubuntu.

Je n'ai pas suivi la 1ère piste ne voyant pas ce qu'était le driver nouveau
Pour la 2ème: ayant observé que le fichier monitors.xml contenait pour l'écran DP-1 (écran connecté selon xrandr, cf. #1) des informations de mode erronées alors que celle de DP-2 (écran non connecté) étaient correctes, j'ai remplacé ces trois lignes dans DP-1 par celles de DP-2. et ça marche ! Voici le contenu original de ce fichier :

Super ! Oui le fichier original que tu présentes est incohérent car il définit les deux écrans en primaire et à la même position x et y. Pour que tu puisse utiliser 2 écrans ceux-ci doivent être collés l'un à côté de l'autre, c'est-à-dire, que la position x du deuxième écran correspond à la largeur du premier écran, ou selon y si les 2 écrans sont l'un au-dessus de l'autre. Ceci, pour la suite, si tu connectes un deuxième écran.
