Salut Ylag,
j'ai fait un sudo nano /etc/default/grub et j'ai enregistré le fichier avec l'option nomedeset
suivi d' un sudo update-grub
puis sudo reboot
et cela a fonctionné mais j'ai une mauvaise résolution d'écran (caractères/icônes trop gros)
je redonne le retour de la commande sudo nano /etc/default/grub

Salut,
Le retour dans votre commentaire précédent ne semble pas complet, il manque des lignes.
Pour lister le fichier, faites plutôt :
cat /etc/default/grub
Avez-vous tenté un démarrage normal sans l'option nomodeset (il faut effacer nomodeset de la ligne de commande pour ce faire.) ?
Deux façon de modifier la ligne de commande au démarrage :
Dans le menu GRUB au démarrage, faire "e" pour entrer dans le mode édition. Repérez et effacez l'option nomodeset de la ligne de commande, puis faites "Ctrl+X" pour continuer le démarrage. Ceci désactive de façon temporaire l'option jusqu'au démarrage suivant.
Vous pouvez aussi directement éditer le fichier /etc/default/grub dans une session active et y effacer l'option nomodeset. Enregistrez et fermez ensuite le fichier, puis faites :
sudo update-grub
...avant de redémarrer.
Cette manip désactive de façon définitive l'option.

ben, j'ai l'impression que tu tournes sous du vesa ou pseudo vesa ( 640x480@73.00hz ), ancienne carte mère avec un chipet graphique intégré ( pilote openchrome), mais inhibé au niveau du bios ou non détecté, cpu non hybride.
si la mémoire graphique de la radeon est faible (256 Mo), cela sera insuffisant avec compiz & unity, et préferer xubuntu.
_teste avec radeon
soit éditer le /etc/default/grub ou autre méthode booter au menu du grub, Editer (touche E je crois) , Compléter et Booter (F10)
radeon.modeset=1 radeon.pcie_gen2=0 radeon.dpm=0
_essaie aussi avec vesa ou openchrome
sudo apt install xserver-xorg-video-openchrome # ou xserver-xorg-video-vesa
éditer le /etc/default/grub
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="nomodeset video=1024x768 "
à chaque modification de ce fichier
sudo update-grub
pour dépanner en 640x480,
-installe arandr

NB: j'avais déjà testé avec un autre moniteur: j'avais un écran figé
J'en conclu qu' avec ma configuration Ubuntu 16.04 n'arrive pas à gérer les écrans.
Mon écran est un DELL Modèle N° D1028LR (il accepte 1280x1240 60hz)

j'ai du ajouter à ma liste de dépôts: le ppa: xorg-edgers pour pouvoir installer certains paquets.
j'ai installé tous les paquets sauf [b]libopenvg1-mesa[/b]; [b]libosmesa6[/b] et [b]libstreamer-vaapi1.0-0[/b]: Il ne trouve pas ces 3 paquets. je les ai retirés de la commande puis j'ai éxécuté la cde puis j'ai fait un sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get full-upgrade et j'ai redémarré.
Résultat: pas d'amélioration: écran toujours en 640x480

Bonjour LéoMajor,
voilà une bonne chose:
en cherchant sur le Net, pourquoi le pilote libre Radeon n'était pas chargé: j'ai vu qu'il fallait enlever l'option "nomodeset" du fichier grub.conf
En lançant la commande lshw -c video, dans le retour, il y a une ligne [b]configuaration: driver= radeon latency=0[/b]
qui signifie que le pilote libre RADEON est bien chargé
Bon j'ai toujours un écran figé
En éditant le fichier /var/log/Xorg.0.log j'ai relevé quelques erreurs:
no layout section
no screen section available
no monitor specified for screen "Default screen Section"
could'nt open module ATI
Dois-je paramétrer manuellement les sections manquantes du serveur graphique Xorg ?
si oui , j'aurai besoin d'un coup de main
