[Résolu ] Kubuntu 18.04 : kwin instable : SLIDESHOW
bonjour,
sur un ordi neuf, j'ai procédé à une install fraîche de kubuntu 18.04.
Marque: portable LENOVO Ideapad 320, détails sur le matériel plus bas: c'est un portable d'entrée de gamme, intéressant car pour 300€ on a un écran 17 pouces et 1To de disque.
L'installation s'est passée sans aucun problème, ce qui était une bonne surprise, ayant passablement galéré sur l'install en 14.04 d'un précédent PC de la même gamme.
MAIS : assez régulièrement, la charge du système se met à monter en flèche et l'affichage se gèle: plus d'autre ressources que d'éteindre et de rallumer, ça m'arrive bien 2 ou 3 fois par jour.
Plus aucun effet de la souris, impossible d'ouvrir une console avec ctrl-alt-f* et pourtant l'ordi tourne toujours, par ex si je passais de la musique, on l'entend toujours.
Des fois l'écran se transforme en une très jolie mosaïque de couleurs, des fois rien, tout s'arrête, on voit encore les fenêtres mais plus d'interaction possible.
Bref, un peu pénible, et je n'ai pas trouvé de confrère de malheur sur Internet, juste un rapport d'installation de kubuntu18.04 qui mentionne que kwin tend à planter, mais sans plus de détails.
Je ne sais pas par quel bout prendre le problème. Suis-je le seul ?

Une piste ?
en cherchant les forums anglophones, j'ai trouvé une piste, même si je ne la comprends pas :
aller dans la config du système, onglet "affichage et écran" puis onglet "compositeur" et décocher "permettre aux applications de bloquer la composition".
comme je ne sais pas ce que c'est qu'un compositeur, j'applique sans comprendre. Ca a l'air de marcher. Si pas de crash pendant 2 jours, je mets le thread en [Résolu]

je change le sujet en essayant d'être plus précis pour avoir des réponses.
Rappel: depuis une fresh install de kubuntu 18.04 sur un laptop neuf (Lenovo Ideapad 320) j'ai régulièrement des plantages de kwin qui ne me laissent d'autre choix que d'éteindre et rallumer. Après recherche sur des forums anglophones, j'ai essayé une piste (cf #2), décocher "permettre aux applications de bloquer la composition"
c'est mieux mais j'ai quand même eu un crash aujourd'hui.
Dans l'outil de config du système (affichage et écran/compositeur) il y a le message d'avertissement suivant :
Le compositeur OpenGL (par défaut) a rendu kwin instable par le passé.
Ceci était très probablement dû à un bogue dans le pilote graphique.
Si vous pensez avoir entre temps effectué une mise à jour vers un pilote stable, vous pouvez réinitialiser cette protection, mais soyez conscient que cela peut aboutir à un plantage immédiat !
Sinon, vous pouvez utiliser plutôt le moteur Xrender.
J'ai alors la possibilité d'activer à nouveau la détection OpenGL.
Bref je patauge un peu car (1) je ne sais pas ce qu'est un compositeur et (2) le moteur de rendu est OpenGL
Que me conseillez vous ? Mettre Xrender comme moteur de rendu ??

EDIT, nouvelles infos, ce modification du sujet
J'ai mis le compositeur XRender, ça ne change rien, j'ai toujours des crashs, mais j'ai réussi à ouvrir un terminal (le boulet: sur les lenovo il faut faire ctrl-alt-fn-f2 et non ctrl-alt-f2....)
Depuis le terminal je lance donc un ps aux pour voir ce qui me bouffe des ressources, et il s'avère que c'est baloo_file.

firefox,
thunderbird,
leurs "Web Content"
et dropbox
de lancés ! Qui, à eux seuls consomment 48% de ta ram :

ok, dsl, j'essaye de bosser en même temps.
Donc! Dans un prochain post, je t'envoies top et free -m une minute après un démarrage: il y aura dropbox vu que c'est un de mes outils de travail lancés au démarrage.
Puis un peu plus tard, après avoir utilisé de manière standard (mail, internet, libre office) l'ordi, je quitte toutes les applis, je fais une grosse pause le temps de cuisiner, et je te refais le même: prêt à parier que la RAM aura augmenté de manière tout à fait significative, sinon, je donne mon code de carte bleue à ubuntu !

bon, comme annoncé, je fais une utilisation habituelle (navig internet, courrier, bureautique) puis je laisse l'ordi en pause pendant une demi heure et je repost les même stats, en ayant quitté firefox et thunderbird. dont 154 pour dropbox lancé au démarrage :
c'est correct.
Ensuite, à toi de contrôler par des extensions de ffox l'occupation de la mémoire (et du cpu)
par Flash (s'il est installé),
et par les javascripts. Pour maîtriser ces derniers,
j'utilise noscript ;
d'autres apprécient ublock origin.

Tu as identifié seul la cause de ton problème initial :
l'indexation balourde de baloo. (Rien à voir avec le graphique, donc).
Tu as trouvé le remède : désactiver baloo.
Bravo !
Pense à mettre ton titre en "Résolu".

applique le #10.
Et c'est seulement si ensuite ta préoccupation persiste, que tu en reparleras, dans un nouveau fil de la section "KDE/Plasma."

j'aimerais en être sur !!
je ne mettrai [RESOLU] que si j'ai 2 jours sans crash ! pas le cas aujourd'hui, j'ai encore eu un crash, après la désactivation de baloo. Bon c'est moins fréquent, c'est vrai, je passe d'un crash toutes les heures à toutes les 4 heures.
Un truc que je constate: la charge mémoire augmente, augmente, augmente, même avec une utilisation qui reste très soft: un peu de surf, même pas de jeux flash, du mail, de la bureautique, ....
et au toucher, je constate que mon pc est très très chaud ! je vais mettre une appli qui mesure sa température....

bonjour, oui j'ai bien appliqué le #10 (no script)
je reste bien à un seul sujet: je cherche des explications à mes crashs réguliers de kwin (qui continuent malgré la désactivation de baloo, l'utilisation de XRender au lieu d'OpenGL) : une "fuite" de mémoire aurait pu être une explication valable: je constate en effet que la charge mémoire est importante mais surtout, croissante
ce fil n'est donc toujours pas résolu, les crashs continuent

ça y est j'ai eu le droit à mon premier plantage du jour, que j'attendais tranquillement en faisant une réussite.... symptôme: fenêtres gelées, la souris bouge mais je ne peux faire aucun click.
J'ai pu ouvrir une console et j'en ai profité pour :
- mesures des températures: 44°C
- log de ta commande magique pour la charge RAM en % décroissant (que j'avais eu la bonne idée de mettre dans un script)

Eh bien, tu peux déjà libérer 96 Mio !
...en fermant ksysguard
...et en laissant, à la place, ouvert en permanence le terminal de
top
puis en tapant une fois, en majuscule et dans la fenêtre de top :
M
où tu laisseras traîner un oeil sur la colonne %MEM
Ça consomme des queues de cerises :

Car, grâce à Alt Tab, on peut basculer vers n'importe quelle fenêtre, donc vers celle de top pour y lire en temps réel le coupable (apt-xapian-index ?)
Note aussi que, dans la fenêtre de top, tu peux
- rebasculer vers le classement par charge CPU en tapant
P # toujours en majuscule !
- puis rebasculer vers le classement par charge RAM en tapant
M # toujours en majuscule !

ok merci, je laisse top tourner, et au prochain plantage, je regarde et je donne des nouvelles.
Effectivement, le mot plantage était abusif. Mais même un gel partiel est très ennuyeux, je n'ai pas trouvé d'autres solutions que de faire off/on pour continuer à bosser.
A moins qu'il existe un moyen de relancer l'environnement par un commande tapée dans un terminal ?

nouveau gel partiel ! ce coup ci mais pas 2h après le précédent ..
En de gel partiel, il n'est pas si partiel que ça : la souris bouge, certes, mais Alt-TAB ne fonctionne pas. Comme j'avais la fenêtre terminal avec top au premier plan, j'ai pu constater qu'il ne se rafraîchissait plus ...
Bref, ouverture console où j'ai tapé top, mais du coup pas moyen de le couper coller.
Les valeurs de load average sont faibles
Classé par process, c'est pulseaudio en tête, bizarre (je précise que je n'avais aucune appli utilisant de l'audio tournant), suivi de kwin_x11
Classé par mémoire, c'est firefox puis plasmashell

Ne pas confondre vitesse et précipitation :
Il faut diagnostiquer avant de choisir un remède !
Faire off/on est généralement plus long que patienter. Mais pas toujours.
Montre aussi
cat /proc/sys/vm/swappiness
Certaines tâches (logiciels d'indexation tel que xapian-index, lecteurs multimedia etc.) si elles accaparent les ressources, peuvent sans dommage être "killées" dans top.
D'autres tâches, non.
D'où l'importance de diagnostiquer avant tout.
P.S. : et donc d'indiquer les pourcentages (à la louche).
P.S.2 : pas besoin de passer en console (au sens de "tty" qu'on ouvre par Ctrl Alt F2), il suffit d'avoir ouvert des terminaux (Ctrl Alt t) avant.
AJOUT : ...enfin... le plus souvent !
