xsane : echec du demarrage du scanner

bonjour
je viens d'installer kubuntu tout fonctionne bien sauf le scanner

imprimante multifonction epson RX520 usb

l'imprimante fonctionne bien le pilote pour la 520 n'existe pas dans la liste mais ça marche avec le RX510 ou le RX600 (pilote actuel)

xsane installé, sane-utils et libsane-extras installés

xsane démarre bien
quand je veux numériser ou prévisualiser j'ai le message suivant :
echec du démarrage du scanner, opération non supportée

je ne sais plus quoi faire...

je ne comprends pas trop ça marchait bien avec suse...
